What is GMAT™

The Graduate Management Admission Test or GMAT is a computer delivered test that assesses your analytical, quantitative, writing, reading and verbal skills in written English. It is taken by students wishing to take up graduate programs related to Business or Management.

Today, more and more students are either inclined towards management programs or want to go for business studies. If you are one such student and wish to get admission in a top business graduate school or college overseas, you must appear for the Graduate Management Admission Test or GMAT®, it is a standardized adaptive test which gives you the chance to study at one of the most prestigious colleges or universities of the world.

Salient Features of GMAT®:

  • GMAT® primarily aims at testing your analytical, writing, quantitative and verbal abilities. GMAT® can bring a significant turning point in your career, but it requires specialized coaching, dedication and efforts.
  • GMAT® is a Computer Adaptive Test. This means the answers of the candidates are administered by the computer and the computer decides the toughness or easiness of next question based upon the correctness or incorrectness of previous answers. Thus, the succeeding questions may be difficult or easy depending upon a candidate’s performance.
  • GMAT® opens your prospects of choosing from any of the 6000 programs being conducted by universities across the globe.

The GMAT consists of three distinct sections, each designed to evaluate the skills essential for success in a graduate business or management program.

You can register for the GMAT at any time of the year, depending on the availability of exam dates and test centers. The cost of the test is US$275. You can easily apply for the test on the official GMAT website. Here’s how:

  • Create an account on the official GMAT website.

  • Fill in your personal details, including name, date of birth, and contact information.

  • Add any optional information if applicable.

  • Review and verify all your profile details.

  • Choose a test center or select the online exam option.

  • Select an available exam date that suits you.

  • Make the payment of US$275.

  • Receive confirmation of your exam registration via email.

  • Prepare for the exam by reviewing the GMAT syllabus and familiarizing yourself with the test format.

  • On the exam day, arrive at the test center (or log in for the online exam) with a valid photo ID.

Although it occasionally takes up to 20 days, GMAT results are normally made public 3–5 business days after the test. The GMAT Focus Edition exam yields a numerical score between 205 and 805 points. A score above 650 is typically regarded as competitive for admission to a reputable MBA program outside of India, with an average score of about 553. Checking the requirements of each school you are targeting is crucial because top-tier programs frequently require scores above 700.
